Waiting to Board

We wake up after a pretty good night’s sleep. It would have been better except for the torrential downpour that we had last night. Carol got up to close the windows as some water was getting in the room. This woke me up and It took me a while to fall back asleep. We have some cheese omelets for breakfast, check out and are on our way about 0830. We arrive at the ferry a little after 0900 and now we wait.

Goodbye Newfoundland

The ferry doesn’t leave until 1145 but you are required to be there at least 2 hours in advance. The skies are clearing and it should be good sailing. Not much else to say about today. We really enjoyed Newfoundland and its people. They have long winters but all seem to be pretty happy. Seven hours on the Ferry and we will be back in North Sydney, where we are staying tonight. This just in…some people have no control of their kids. We are sitting near some obnoxious loud, jumping on the chairs kids and the parents do not care. I said control your kids kind of loudly and the one mom turns to me and says excuse me. More like she should be excused from being a mom. I guess I found a couple of not so nice Canadians. We eventually moved after watching at least three other couples do so and found a more quiet location. I finished my journals, slept a bit and read some magazines.

Hello Nova Scotia

The ride went fast and before we knew it we were docking in North Sydney. I called the Black Spoon Bistro where we ate on the way out of town and they put our name on the wait list. We got a call from them that our table was ready when we were a few blocks away so that worked out well. We enjoyed another great mea. Carol had Salmon with shrimp and I had a Cajun seafood medley which had shrimp, mussels, lobster and scallops in it. We shared a salted caramel crunch cake for dessert. After dinner, we drove to a gas station to fill up with cheaper than Newfoundland gas which is still around 3.50 a gallon in U.S. dollars. Our hotel was close and we checked in around 08:15. Our slow journey westward begins tomorrow.
