Durango, CO August 17 and August 18, 2004 Durango

We had planned on taking the 17th as a rest day in Durango. After discussing things last night, we decided that we would take two rest days. Instead of hiking Segment 25 and 26, we will just hike Segment 26 as a day hike. Several things went into this decision. Jill wasn’t feeling well, Chevy went to the vet and the pads on his feet were sore and tender, my pack wasn’t working well, and Carol and Tim were the fittest in the group. Jill and I couldn’t stand for that, so an extra day of rest and relaxation seemed like the thing to do. Tim and I drove up Bolam Pass on the 18th to check out the advertised rough road. Bolam Pass is the beginning of Segment 26 and we were originally going to hike through it. It was rough and narrow in spots, but overall wasn’t that bad. So we drove on back to town to meet the girls. On the way it poured down rain on us, so maybe it was a sign that we made the right choice, as we would have been hiking in it today. Tomorrow we are back on the trail.
