A fairly relaxing day today. We went and walked about a mile up the road to Cravings for breakfast. We each had a very good breakfast burrito.
After getting back to the motel, we went over the grocery list. Carol was going down to the Dollar general with Shannon and I am going to walk to the library and try to catch up on my journal. They have a 30 minute limit and 4 computers. I stay for about 3 hours as there always seems to be an empty computer up to that point. No one seems to mind, especially as I spent some time helping an elderly local lady with a few computer issues.
While walking back to the hotel, I see Shannon crossing the street. Carol tells me she was going to get a haircut. Later, we find out that she went to 4 or 5 different places and even though some were empty, they would not cut her hair. Apparently some hair envy or hair bigotry going on in the town of Chester. Carol and I decide to go to the Happy Garden Chinese restaurant for a late lunch. The motel owner said that they might give us a ride so we call but the owners husband is out with the car. We walk the mile to the restaurant and have a nice meal. We chat with the owner and learn that she is from Vietnam and came here when she was 21. She gives us her card and tells us if we go to Vietnam to let her know as her sister who is visiting still lives there and could show us around. You never know. After lunch, we head to the grocery store to finish up our resupply shopping. We get some pepperoni, cheese, and bread to have for dinner with the leftover beer we had bought yesterday. we also buy a couple of roast beef sandwiches at their deli for lunch on the trail tomorrow.
Shannon comes over with some wine and shares our snacks while we chat. She has also arranged a ride to the trail head tomorrow with a trail angel named Pipers Mom. Her daughter, Piper, hiked the trail a few years ago and her mom now helps hikers with rides and other magic. Tomorrow we are back on the trail heading for Lassen National Park.
