Our ship arrived late to Stockholm because of high winds and fog. We still had to get up at 0700 to eat and shower in time to leave. When we finished the tough job of packing, they make the announcement that we can leave the ship. Crowded stairwells make us happy that we only have one flight down to go. I don’t think I mentioned that our room location could not have been more perfect. One floor up to main dining and the center of the ship, and not too far from elevators and ship exit when we were in port. We were very happy.
We exit the ship into the foggy, misty Stockholm day. I am glad it is not raining as I know I will sweat enough on our walk to town without wearing my raincoat. It is about a 3.75 mile walk to the Hotorget or hay market. It takes us a little over an hour and when we get there, it is a little disappointing. It is like a small outdoor flea market and the indoor section with food and crafts is closed on Sunday’s. We find a dry stone bench and decide we will walk to the fish truck, have lunch, and then walk to city hall, relax, use the free rest rooms and on to the train station. The weather turns sunny and so does our disposition. We stop at the Royal armory and I ask nicely ( yes, I can be nice) if we can use the rest rooms. They say yes. Most of the toilets in the malls and even the McDonald’s are pay toilets and we do not have a lot of Kroners left so free is good. We go on to the fish truck and sit in the sun eating our fried herring and mashed potatoes. 120 Swedish Kroners gone, 50 left, which is about 6 bucks. We go to city hall, find a nice bench and just relax for about an hour.

One last bathroom break and on to the station 10 minutes away. We find where our train leaves in an hour and look for something to spend our last Kroner’s on. We see a chocolate Boille for 34, two cokes for 30, two McDonald’s sundaes fro 20. Carol really wants to try the chocolate (ball) thing about the size of a baseball. But, we also want sundaes and would be 4 Kroner short. I give Carol 30 Kroner and tell her to ask the guy how much the ball is and then tell him she only has 30 Kroner. My plan works as the nice man donates the 4 Kroner for her and even gives her the traditional one as it is best. The ball is quite heavy and it almost has a fudge type consistency inside. It is sprinkled with a coconut sugar type topping. It is very good and goes great with our sundaes. We sit a little longer in the station and walk out at 1450 and our train pulls up. We are lucky that we bought our tickets ahead and are sitting in first class. Very nice!! We are now on the 6 hour journey to Oslo in Norway, another new country. See you there.
