We start our journey east from Colorado. It is a cool 36 degrees with a misty fog as we begin our drive in the early morning. When we stop for a quick breakfast burrito at the McDonald’s in Burlington, Colorado, I hear someone say that they got 14 inches of snow in the mountains last night. Our time in Colorado has been very wet and cold.
From Burlington, we cross the Kansas line and continue our journey. We make a stop in Salina, Kansas to eat at the Hickory Hut, a barbecue place we discovered several years ago. It has become mandatory for us to stop here when traveling I-70. The food is excellent and plentiful. Carol has chicken and ribs and I go for ribs and pulled pork. A nice sized slice of Texas toast along with two sides each accompany our entrees. In addition, there is a bar with pickles, hot peppers, onions, and several types of barbecue sauce for your to chose from. It is lunch time and the place is hopping. We thought about taking leftovers for tonight but as seems to be the case with good food, it does not happen. Our plates cleaned, it is time to drive through the rest of Kansas.
We drive through the Flint Hills area which doesn’t agree with the Kansas is flat theory. It has finally warmed up a little and as we leave Kansas, there is actually a few patches of blue skies on the horizon. We exited Interstate 70 just shy of Kansas City and start a more southeasterly route. We cross into Missouri and wind our way towards Clinton, a small town which of us is notable for the Hampton Inn we will be staying at. A few fresh baked cookies are all we need to tide us over for the night as we are still very full from our enormous lunch. We are hoping for no rain tomorrow morning as we have plans to visit a site about 90 miles south of here. See you then.
Having read this I believed it was really enlightening. I appreciate you finding the time and effort to put this information together.
I once again find myself spending a lot of time both reading and posting comments.
But so what, it was still worthwhile!
